What Is Sound Masking?
A sound masking system consists of a series of speakers installed in a grid-like pattern in the ceiling. There is also a control system that adjusts their zoning and output. The speakers are designed to gently distribute a background sound. This sound can be specifically engineered to cover up speech as well as general office noise that results from normal daily activities and exterior traffic flow. The result is that you can control the ambient level of sound in your facility.
How Does Sound Masking Work?
Simply put, any noises that are below the sound created by the sound masking system are covered up. For those noises that are above the background noise, their impact will be lessened because the degree of change between baseline and peak volumes is smaller. Similarly, conversations are either entirely masked, or their intelligibility is reduced, improving occupants’ privacy and decreasing the number of disruptions to their concentration.
